Wentsel Davis Obituary

We are confident that to be absent from the body is to present with the Lord. 1 Corinthians 5:8

The precious life of Wentsel McKoy Davis began on August 25, 1945 to the late Willie and Warnie Mae McKoy McAuley in Angier, North Carolina. Her earthly journey was completed on January 25, 2024.

Wentsel was a hard worker and was wise beyond her years, touching the lives of many with her gift of cooking.

She was educated in the Harnett County Public School System and graduated from Johnsonville High School in 1963. After graduating, she moved to Queens, New York and later married her high school classmate and sweetheart, Waymon Warren Davis. To this union, they were blessed with two wonderful daughters. They relocated back to North Carolina in October 1996 after 34 years.

As a child, Wentsel became a member of the church of God In Christ Jesus. Upon returning to North Carolina, she remained a faithful member until her health began to decline.

Wentsel was an adventurer during her youth, following her father through the tobacco fields with the mule and loved cooking outside in tin cans.

Wentsel sang in the church choir as a child and was a member of the YPHG {Young Peoples Holiness Guide) under the leadership of Bishop Paul McKoy. She loved shopping, attending gospel singings, and vacationing.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Willie and Warnie Mae McKoy; two brothers, Elroy and Leroy McKoy; one sister, Hattie Hannans; and one grandson, Derron Williamson.

Her life and legacy will be shared by many. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 59 years, Waymon Davis; two daughters, Willette Gilchrist (James) of Cameron, NC, and Wandra Davis Sneed (Alfred) of Sanford, NC; a bonus daughter, Makayla Domond; four grandchildren, Jamel Davis (Tasha) of Columbus, GA, Waymon Harington of Cameron, NC, Daniqua Brown (John) of Sanford, NC, and Alfred Llyod Sneed of Tustin, CA; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Willie Mae Harrington of Queens, NY, Reatha McCrimmon of Cameron, NC, Delois Richardson of Sanford, NC, and Janice Chalmers (Lester) of Cameron, NC; four brothers-in-law, Ellis Davis (Dorothy) of Sanford, NC, Norman Davis (Eulah) of Winston Salem, NC, Jerry Davis (Peggy) of Sanford, NC; two sisters-in-law, Bettie Davis of Sanford, NC, and Verlene Burke of Sanford, NC. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
