Mrs. Shirley Gean Marsh

Mrs. Shirley Gean Carter Marsh was born on March 7, 1933 to the late Dempsey and Henrietta (Phelps) Carter. She departed this earthly home on November 9, 2021 at her home.

She attended Chatham County Schools, and later received her GED from Paul Braxton. During her time in school, she meets her lifelong partner. Her school sweetheart Mr. Isiah Marsh. In 1950 they were married and to this union five children were born, one of which preceded her in death.

At an early age, she joined First Missionary Baptist Church in Siler City, NC. After her marriage, she joined Centennial AME Zion Church in Bear Creek, where she attended faithfully until her husband’s and then her health failed.  She served as an Usher and on the Missionary Board. She retired from Gold Kist in 2000. She was a loyal Avon Representative for over 25 years. She also loved cooking, planting, gardening and being silly. She was one of the devoted original members of the Bonlee-Bear Creek Savings Club.  Also, she was a member of the Saved by Grace Prayer Line Ministry.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dempsey & Henrietta Carter, her daughter Shirley Marie Marsh, her sister Elaine Walden, brothers Clifton Carter, Dempsey Carter, Jr, Andy Carter, Granddaughter Audra Brooks, Grandson Christopher (Debo) Headen, Great-Grandson Elijah Smith & Great-Great Granddaughter Faith Boyd.

She leaves to cherish her in our memories her husband Isiah Marsh of 71 years. 4 children Betty (Jerrell) of Siler City, NC, Daniel (Deann) of Goldston, NC, Loretta (Lewis) of Bonlee, NC, and Sharon of Woodbridge, VA. Her sister Janel Benson of Greensboro, NC. Sister-in-Laws Mrs. Rosa Mae, Mrs. Doris (Herman) Jones, and Mrs. Carmen Carter. 23 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren, 7 Great-Great Grandchildren and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, and Nephews.
