Mrs. Mildred Rachel Goins Cheek was born on January 9, 1955 in Chatham County to the late Floyd Binnon Goins and Beatrice Glover Goins. She departed this life, Wednesday March 1, 2023 at Chatham Hospital.
At an early age she joined Glovers United Church of Christ and was secretary and over the youth department, until her health declined. She was a very faithful and active member at Glovers. She enjoyed decorating the church for different occasions and making programs for the church.
Rachel attended Chatham High, Chatham Central High School, and Central Carolina Community College. She retired from the University of North Carolina after 20 + years of service. She was a supervisor and loved every moment of it, she would always call her staff her boys and she had a special hand with all of them.
On October 2, 1971 in South Carolina, she married her high school sweet heart, Harry Cheek. To this union three children were born. She was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend that will be missed by all.
Rachel loved the beach and loved to go as much as possible. She enjoyed taking trips with her sisters and family. She loved reading, yard sales, shopping, traveling, going to church, spending time with family and friends, collecting her little trinkets. She was a huge Tar Heel fan. She was definitely the glue that kept this family together. She touched the lives of so many people that she came in contact with.
One of her favorite sayings was my daddy gave us the perfect last name “Goins” because we love to go places.
