Steve Lewis Mitchell was born October 14, 1953 to the late Charles W. Mitchell and Eugenia Cheek Mitchell. Born in Chatham County, he is the second oldest of five.
He kept to himself as a child, finding interest in building things with his hands. After he was honorably discharged, he married and started a family. From that union, three children were born.
