Obituary

Lawrence Totten, native of Alamance County, North Carolina was born December 6, 1942 to the late Inez Johnson. He entered into eternal rest Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Alpine Nursing Home, Asheboro, North Carolina. On May 14, 1966, Lawrence was united in holy matrimony to Shirley J. Goins. To this union, two sons were born, Steve and Kenneth Totten. 

At an early age, he joined Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and lived a life dedicated to serving the Lord. Lawrence was very committed to his church by serving as a Deacon, Trustee, Usher, and a member of the Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Male Chorus and Senior Choir. He loved singing and used his singing gift to bless others. He had always been actively involved and dedicated to his church and took his leadership responsibilities seriously.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Johnson; brother Ad Totten; and sisters, Patricia Johnson and Mary Elizabeth Totten.

He leaves to cherish his memory: Shirley Totten, his loving wife of fifty-four years; his sons, Steve Totten (Desiree) of Apex, North Carolina and Kenneth Totten (special friend Megan) of Asheboro, North Carolina; brothers, Carl Totten of Burlington, North Carolina and Melvin Totten of Siler City, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Lauren, Mariah, Matthew, Isaac, Isaiah, Michael and Dasauni; eight great-grandchildren; two aunts, Calloway Isley and Ophelia Totten; in laws, Barbara Shamburger, Stella Brown (Clyde), James Goins (Jennifer), Judy Headen (John), Larry Goins; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
