Mr. James "Snook" Covington Obituary

Obituary

Mr. James Alfred Covington, affectionately known as Snook, son of the late Charles Arthur Covington and Edna L. Minter Covington was born on December 24, 1946. He departed his life on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at his residence in Sanford, North Carolina.

James was educated at W.B. Wicker School. He then joined the United States Navy. Following an honorable discharge from the Navy he moved back to Sanford and worked for Allied Chemical before moving to the Mid-West and West Coast while working for the railroad. James then settled in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin where he was affectionately known as Jim and Covie by his family and friends there. While in Beaver Dam he began working for Power Gear as a Production Manager and then became Plant Manager at Power Packer in Westfield, WI, he worked for the Enerpac/Actuant company for 20 years. He was known as the person always willing to give somebody a second chance and to hire based on his impression of them and not their history. After retiring, he returned home to North Carolina and rejoined his home church, Ward Memorial. He was a faithful member of the Male Chorus, Sunlights Singers and the Trustee Board.

If you knew Snook you know he had a love for cars, playing golf, cooking and the Green Bay Packers. He was always sharply dressed with a stylish hat to match. He was the life of the party and had an infectious smile and laugh.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edna Covington; and sister Sharon Covington.

He leaves to cherish his memories three daughters; Katina Bland, of Wake Forest, NC, Olivia Covington of Beaver Dam, WI and Nikki Schalinske of Chicago, IL; two grandchildren, Kendall R. Marsh and Porter James Covington; two sisters, Sandra Chapelle and Debra Crump (Kelvin); three nieces, Shameika Davis (Thomas), LaShelle Crump, La-Shonda Quick (Nigel); two nephews, Lamont Crump and Kenneth Williams; six great-nieces and one great-nephew; four aunts, Yvonne Covington, Ella Mae Walker, Lula Robinson (Steve) and the very special and devoted Pastor Brenda Harrington (Larry); special cousins Larry Harris and Eddie Minter; a special friend, Fannie Headen; bonus daughter Janelle Headen; bonus grandson Josiah Headen Wyatt; a host of friends in Wisconsin including his bonus brother, Troy Bohn; and a host of other relatives and friends.
