Obituary
James "Jim" Arthur Spinks, 70, of Asheboro, North Carolina, peacefully transitioned Saturday July 11, 2020 surrounded by family at his beloved home. Born May 20, 1950, in Asheboro, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Eulis and Donnie Spinks.
He is preceded in death by his siblings: Sam, Jake, and Josephine Spinks.
Jim graduated from Ramseur High School in 1968 and was drafted into the United States Army in 1969 where he served his country in combat during the Vietnam War. He received an honorable discharge in 1972. After returning from the Vietnam War, he pursued an associate degree in Mechanics from Randolph Technical Community College and graduated in 1974. Jim worked for many years at Eveready and Elastics. He was last employed by United Brasswork until forced to retire due to health problems in 2014.
He was a devoted member of Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and served as a trustee. He loved sports, especially baseball, his favorite team was the Atlanta Braves. Jim played baseball, football and basketball throughout high school and excelled in all 3 sports. He was a warrior in sports and in life. Jim was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Betty Spinks; along with 3 children; Gail Spinks-Brunson (Kendrick), Taraus D. Spinks(Latisha) and James D. Spinks(Tonya). He was also a grandfather to Tiaja, Tiante, Tianna, Tiaree. T’Khiyai, Traia and Jayel Spinks; Kameron and Jaylon Brunson; Susania and Tatiana Bent. Jim also leaves to cherish his memory many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
