Obituary 

Mr. Isiah Marsh was born in Chatham County, NC on April 10, 1932 to the late George & Ometer Marsh. He departed life at his home surrounded by family on March 3, 2022. 

He attended Chatham County Schools where he met his lifelong partner and school sweetheart, Mrs. Shirley G. Carter of Siler City, NC. They were married on October 28, 1950, and to this union five children were born. 

At an early age, he joined Centennial AME Zion Church in Bear Creek, NC where he served as an Usher, a Steward and a member of the adult choir for many years. He attended faithfully until his health failed. 

He was employed by the Bonlee Lumber Company, Poultry Plant, E. T. Hanner's Pulp Wood Company, and subsequently retired from Chatham Novelty. He also worked for Knotts & Sons Funeral Home of Siler City & Sanford for many years until his health failed him. He was a Mason and a former member of the Light of the World Lodge #711. He was also one of the devoted original members of the Bonlee-Bear Creek Savings Club. He enjoyed westerns, hunting and watching his Atlanta Braves. He also loved farming and gardening 

He was preceded in death by: his wife of 71 years, Shirley G. (Carter) Marsh; his parents, George & Ometer Marsh; his daughter, Shirley Marie Marsh; granddaughter, Audra Brooks; grandson, Christopher (Debo) Headen; great-grandson, Elijah Smith; great-great granddaughter, Faith Boyd; as well as, his 15 brothers and sisters, Rev. Bessie Goldston, David Marsh, unnamed Baby Boy Marsh, George Marsh, Jr., Catherine Baldwin, Leon Marsh, Iner Mae Johnson, Henry Marsh, Rev. Mary Belle Marsh, Monroe Marsh, Mozell Marsh, Bertha Fralin, Homer Marsh, Percy Marsh, and Rev Preston Marsh; his stepmother, Bessie Marsh; his stepbrothers and stepsisters: Bill Reaves, Ivy Reaves, Priscilla Day and Lucille Dowdy. 

He leaves to cherish him in memory: four children, Betty (Jerrell) Williams of Siler City, NC, Daniel (Deann) Marsh of Goldston, NC, Loretta (Lewis) of Bonlee, NC, and Sharon Marsh of Woodbridge, VA; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; 4 sisters-in-law, Mrs. Rosa Mae, Mrs. Doris (Herman) Jones, Mrs. Janel (Harold) Benton and Mrs. Carmen (Andy) Carter; a special cousin and friend, Jake (Martha) Brower; and a host of nieces, and nephews.
