Life' s Reflections
Mr. Frederick "Rod" Murdock was born October 29, 1965, to the late Ralph Niles and Patina
Murdock. He transitioned to his heavenly home on August 17, 2022.
Rod attended Chatham Central High School. He participated in sports where he excelled and
earned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in track/field and football. He graduated from
Chatham Central High School. For a short period, Rod played football with a semi-professional
team in Durham, North Carolina. He attended Central Carolina Community College and earned
his Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance. Rod’s passion for welding began when he was
employed by Precision Steel & Welding Company in Siler City.
He was then led to study law enforcement where he completed the Basic Law Enforcement
Training (BLET). After completing his training, he joined the Sanford Police Department as a patrol
officer in 1996. He then worked for the Greensboro Police Department. In 2004, he accepted
a contract position as a civilian police officer serving as a mentor and advisor for the United Nations
in Kosovo. Upon returning from Kosovo, Rod returned with the Sanford Police Department #
106, moving up ranks as a senior officer and trainer. In 2013, he began serving as a reserved police
officer with the UNC Police Department.
After 25 years of service in law enforcement, Rod retired in January 2021, from the Sanford Police
Department. He was actively involved in his community and served on the board of trustee at
Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church in Bear Creek. He loved to entertain and cook for his friends and
family and was known as the “grillmaster”. Rod had a servant’s heart with many talents and
trades; welding, electrical, automotive and lawn moving. He enjoyed cooking, grilling, riding his
motorcycle with his buddies and spending time with his family. He used his time generously
