Obituary

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose

under the heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted."

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Mexie Marsh Burnette was born March 5, 1928, the daughter of the late Macon Marsh, Sr. and Lelia Crutchfield Marsh. Mexie was united in marriage to the late Harvey Burnette, Sr. She was a loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grand mother and aunt.

Mexie was a member of Evans Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where she sang in the choir and served as an uisher until her health began to decline. She was educated in the Chatham County School System. Mexie loved spending time with her sons and grandchildren. She enjoyed being around people and making them laugh but she was quick to tell you what was on her mind! She worked at Mid-State Farms for many years.

Mexie was preceded in death by: her husband, Harvey Burnette, Sr.; two sons, Julius Earl Marsh and James Franklin Marsh; her brothers, Grady Marsh, Jerry Marsh, Macon Marsh, Jr., Cleatis Marsh, Oliver Marsh, Shirley Louis Marsh, Clyde Marsh, Charles Marsh, William Marsh, and Leroy Gowins; her sisters, Mary Hobby, Corine Bridges, Callie Mae DeGraffenreidt, Lelia Mae Burnette and LaRuth Marsh White.

Mexie transitioned from this earthly life on Friday, December 11, 2020. She leaves to cherish her loving and fond memories: her sons, Thurl Lee Marsh of Apex, NC, Larry Darnell Marsh (Elvira Denise) of Siler City, NC, Harvey Lee Burnette, Jr. of Burlington, NC and Malcom Sydney Burnette (Lori) of Burlington, NC; her grandchildren, Crystal Johnson, Brian Marsh, Michael Newby, Phillip Marsh, Sasha B. Headen, Brittany Brooks, Camden Burnette, William McSwain, Jakayla Burnette; her great-grand children, Kenyetta Johnson, Cody Nettles, Cari Burnette, Anissa Newby; her great-great-grandchildren, Emmerson Johnson, special nephews, Frank Kenric Marsh and Coyrick Cheek; special nieces, Loretta French and Vernell Marsh; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A special thank you to Ms. Ella M. Milliken and Ms. Elvira Denise Nolan for being such loving caregivers.
