Mr. Eugene Wilborne Cross Jr. was born on December 25, 1953 to Marcie M. Cross and the late Eugene Wilborne Cross Sr. He departed this earthly life on July 17, 2023.
E.W. as he was affectionately called, was a member of Saint Luke United Methodist Church, where he was a faithful member and was active in Sunday Morning Worship. He loved the Lord and would praise the Lord even if he had to do it by himself. He looked forward in having Nightly Bible Study with his wife, Paulette.
He attended and graduated from the Asheboro City School System, where he played basketball. He was employed with Energizer Battery as a fixer/machine operator retiring due to health reasons.
E.W. was a person of few words, but would let you know what he thought, if the occasion arose. Being an outdoors person, you could find him at times walking around his yard or loving on a bobcat, lawn mower or tractor. In his younger years, the joy of his life was helping his grandfather (Jesse) on the hog farm. He enjoyed all sports, being an avid Dallas Cowboy and NC Tar Heel fan enjoying watching them play. He loved keeping up with the success and progress of his grand- son’s basketball games. He also enjoyed spending time with his best friends Wilson Funderburg, Charles Steed, and Kermit Thomas.
He married the former Paulette Bynum, to this union two children were reared, Ernest Bryan, of whom preceded him in death and Gretchen Vanette. E.W. loved his family and instilled in his kids to be all that you can be, but put God first.
E.W. was preceded in death by: his father; Eugene Cross Sr., his son; Ernest Bryan, grandson; Malachi, and sisters; Burnetta Jean Cross, Vanessa Cross Jordan, and Marie Cross Boone.
He leaves to carry on his legacy: his wife; Paulette Cross, daughter; Gretchen Cross, mother; Marcie M. Cross, one sister; Patricia Cross Balfour (Greg), grandsons; Jaylen, Lee and Ryan , brothers in law; Harvey C. Boone, Tony Bynum (Priscilla), Kenneth Bynum (Peggy), and Vincent Jordan (Anita), several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
